Can a Broken Heart Forget?

Two years ago last Friday she came and rocked my world. I had already been around the block a time or two. Lived through parents’ divorces, beloved boyfriends cohorting with best friends, surgeries, and plenty of bad news. But as Hillary Johnson put it, I had never really learned to cry.

Oh, but I did learn how then. I learned that nothing, nothing hurts like losing a child. In the end, as you know, we got to keep her. But there is this little part of my heart that doesn’t believe it, that can’t trust it, that won’t let me forget.

Happy Birthday to the little girl who taught you tears. Now I like to think she teaches you to smile.

This is.... incredible. Beautiful. _______. There aren't words, really. Your beautiful daughter is such a fighter, survivor. She has faced more in her short time here than most people will ever endure- and look at that angelic smile! You and your family have truly been tried by fire. While I have faced things (including heart surgery) in this world that were worrisome or difficult, even painful, NOTHING compares to the pain of something hurting your child. I rejoice with you that you got to keep her. I sympathize with you for the trauma you face still at all you faced.
